Sources in the Konkan railway said the mudslide took place around 10.15am, sometime before the Trivandrum -LLT Netravati Express was to pass. Noticing a pile of mud on the tracks, the Netravati Express driver stopped the train just before the location of the mudslide.

It took about two hours to clear the mud and the boulder and to restore traffic.

“Traffic resumed around 12.30pm,” said a KR spokesperson, adding that only Netravati Express was held up because of the incident and services were normalised thereafter.

As most part of the route goes through the difficult terrain and is prone to landslides during the monsoon, the KR takes various measures such as speed restrictions of 75kmph, to ensure safety of passengers.
