Mumbai: Damaged rakes to affect CR services for days
A total of 10 electrical multiple unit (EMU) trains were damaged by passengers in the Diva agitation, which affected suburban services on Friday.
Central Railway (CR) suburban services may remain affected for the next few days, due to the unavailability of sufficient rakes.
A total of 10 electrical multiple unit (EMU) trains were damaged by passengers in the Diva agitation, which affected suburban services on Friday.
The CR Mumbai division runs 1,618 services daily with 121 rakes, which translates to 13-14 services for each rake. As a result, unavailability of 10 rakes will affect 130-140 services directly, said the railway official.
The windscreens, window glass, LED panels, chairs, lights and fans of several trains were damaged by passengers during the public agitation at Diva.
“For the next two-three days, the number of services will be fewer, due to unavailability of sufficient rakes. The 10 damaged rakes will be sent to a different car-shed for repair work and it will take a few days for them to start plying again,” said Narendra Patil, chief public relation officer (CPRO).
