App will guide you home: The latest addition to Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) is a nifty app that guides nature lovers through the park. You can pick from any of the three trails on the app — Avenue Trees Trail, Upper Kanheri and Bamboo Hunt Trail. The app not only guides you, but also provides ecological and biological information about the trees around you. The best part is you don’t need an internet connection to access the app.

Peddle away

Now, Mumbai may be notorious for its chaotic traffic, but what better time than a weekend to indulge in some healthy cardio activity. So get your bikes out or rent one to explore these hidden corners of the city. Some of the best stretches to cycle are located right in the heart of the city – Marine Drive, Worli Sea Face and Bandra Bandstand. But if you are looking to make it an experience to remember, many cycling groups offer tours of Kala Ghoda, the city’s art district, or a midnight bicycle tour across south Mumbai.

Heritage district: As part of Thrillophilia’s four-hour bike tour, cycling enthusiasts get to experience a slice of history while peddling through the old pockets of south Mumbai. The tour kicks off from Kailash Parbat restaurant in Colaba at 6.15am, and takes you through CST, Sassoon Dock, and ride to an NGO called Bombay Panjrapole, which houses farm animals and a quick pit stop at the ancient Mumba Devi Temple.

Cost: Rs1,500 per person (includes breakfast, bicycles, guide charges and bottled water)

Midnight coastal ride: This weekend, Trekking – Spartans (a local group that organises regular hiking trips) is offering a midnight cycle ride across the coastal route of Mumbai. This 32-km ride will begin from Apollo Bunder at 10.30pm and end at Bandra’s Bandstand. While there will be pit stops along the way, this ride is ideal for serious bikers.

Cost: Rs750 (includes snacks, energy bars, energy drinks, guide)
