Nilesh Bharmal, a resident of Parel village, was on night duty at an ATM outlet located in the premises of a petrol pump on DBA road in Lalbaug when the incident occurred.

"Bharmal was asleep when, at around 2.30am, the overhead parapet at the petrol pump fell on his head, leaving him grievously injured," said inspector Sandeep Bhagdikar of Kalachowki police station.

Police said that Bharmal, who is a native of Kolhapur, was immediately rushed to KEM Hospital by the petrol pump employees, but was declared dead at admission.

The police said that they are investigating the case and will make arrests in due course for causing death due to negligence.

"As of now, we are investigating the case and investigating who is responsible for the annual maintenance of the petrol pump and if it belonged to an individual or was provided on lease by the company. The course of investigation will be decided once these details are available," said Bhagdikar.
