While watching Dinesh Karthik thrash Delhi Daredevils bowlers all over the park or seeing Ricky Ponting pull off a breathtaking catch is a treat, figuring out how to get to Wankhede Stadium on time or managing to get a spot to park can be quite a headache. Not anymore. Traffline.com has launched a service that allows people to track traffic in real time as well as zero in on parking spots around the stadium for the entire duration of the ongoing T20 tournament in India.

“The service was initially put into place for the 2011 World Cup final. At the time, the Mumbai traffic police department had gotten in touch with us for a model that ensured less chaos,” says Brijraj Vaghani of traffline.com. This time, the range of information has been expanded to include match schedule, real-time traffic details, alternative routes to avoid jams and parking spots around the stadium. The service is currently on for T20 matches taking place in Delhi, Bengaluru and Mumbai. The parking spots have been compiled in collaboration with the traffic police. “However, we have added a few more spots after a recce of the area. We’ve realised that people don’t have an issue with parking at Azad Maidan, for example, and then walking down from there,” says Vaghani.

The website has also tied up with bookmyshow.com for tickets. As part of the service, they send an alert on traffic in the area at 4 pm followed by a message giving information on parking spots at 6.30-7 pm. For the match between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Daredevils played on April 9, the alert was sent to over 8,000 people. “And the response was phenomenal. People were on Twitter asking us for details on the best routes to get there.”
