Shaikh was arrested on Monday after one of his victims told her father about her ordeal.
Shaikh was remanded in police custody till December 3 as the police wanted to find out whether he had committed similar crimes in the past.
The JJ Marg police said Shaikh had a criminal case registered against him at the Bazaarpeth police station in Kalyan, but till Thursday evening they had no details of it. “The case was filed in 2000; it will take time to get the records,” said Police Inspector S Bagwe, of the JJ Marg police.
The victim’s father had filed an application with the Byculla police three years ago, saying Shaikh was performing black magic on his family and that he was an illegal immigrant.
The JJ Marg police are clueless about where Shaikh hails from. “We are sending a team to Bangladesh to trace Shaikh’s family and are in touch with the police there,” said Bagwe.
The police sought court permission to record the statements of each victim separately, as well as the father’s.
They would also seek further police custody for Shaikh on Friday to find out the involvement of the clinics where two of his victims had abortions.
Meanwhile, the family of one of Shaikh’s victims filed an application in court to claim the Rs 1 crore recovered from the tantrik’s house as well as flat worth Rs 40 lakh that he allegedly pressured the victim’s mother to hand over to him.
