Tak had them all after befriending Khan’s mother Celina Patel, but lost the plot when he felt that Patel would dump him, said crime branch sources. The situation worsened after he learnt about the family’s desire to move to Dubai, and Khan’s plans to marry her boyfriend, said police sources.
Police sources say Tak stripped the bodies of valuables before burying them. Officials believe that when the family was leaving Igatpuri for Jammu and Kashmir, it had nearly Rs50 lakh in cash, and jewellery worth about Rs2 crore.
Tak also visited Khan’s apartment at Oshiwara after the murders to steal valuables before fleeing the city. Joint commissioner of police (crime) Himanshu Roy said, “We have information that he visited Khan’s Oshiwara flat, and took some valuables. We will go through documents and bank lockers that belonged to the family.”
