Sharma was taken for a check up to JJ hospital last night after he complained of chest pain and other health
complications. He was examined by doctors and later discharged and shifted to Thane Central Prison.

The encounter specialist and five others were remanded to judicial custody till January 27 yesterday by Andheri
metropolitan magistrate.

The 1984 batch IPS officer, constables Ratnakar Kamble and Tanaji Desai and three others were arrested on January 7
for allegedly killing Ramnarayan Gupta alias Lakhan Bhaiyya, an alleged associate of gangster D K Rao, on November 11, 2006 in suburban Versova.

Andheri metropolitan magistrate has directed jail authorities to lodge Sharma in a separate cell in the prison
and make arrangements to ensure his safety.

The direction was made after Sharma's lawyer Shrikant Shivade requested the court for the officer to be not taken to
a jail where several gangsters are lodged, as there is a threat to his life.
