Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray met chief minister Prithviraj Chavan on Tuesday and asked him to provide relief to the fishermen community, who are being harassed on the issue of caste validity certificate.

He said the youth of the community are losing jobs because of the unavailability of these certificates.
"There is a committee set up by the state in 2001 to deal with the issue, which has still not tabled its report," said Thackeray.
Thackeray said he had asked Chavan to direct officials to spare the community of this agony by waiving the certificate clause. Thackeray also focused Chavan’s attention on the recent oil spill, which occurred because of the sinking of a ship.
"The large scale propaganda to stop people from eating has also affected the fishermen in a big way," said Thackeray.
