Reduce road tax: Tourist taxi owners

Representatives of the federation of tourist taxi operators (FOTTO) met officials of the Maharashtra government on Monday and urged them to reconsider the "astronomical 500 percent hike" in road tax for tourist taxis.

Representatives of the federation of tourist taxi operators (FOTTO) met officials of the Maharashtra government on Monday and urged them to reconsider the "astronomical 500 percent hike" in road tax for tourist taxis.

“We met principal secretary SK Sharma along with the deputy transport commissioner and asked them to reduce the annual road tax paid by the tourist taxi owners,” said FOTTO president Harsh Kotak.

“The earlier tax amount was Rs1600 per car, which has been increased to Rs8,000 from June 1,” he said.

“In today's meeting, government officials have asked us to wait for 2-3 days,” he added.

“We would again hold a meeting in this regard and if the issue is not resolved, we may keep our vehicles off the roads as protest and ensure that no foreign delegation and government official gets any tourist cab," he added.
