The accused, Sudarshan Deshmukh, along with two friends, allegedly stole gold and silver jewellery worth Rs. 8lakh from their house. The Ramnagar police have arrested all three accused.

Police said that on Friday, Sheetal Sakharam Deshmukh, 38, a resident of Matoshree building, Ayare road, Dombivli (East) lodged a complaint of a house break-in theft at the police station. Deshmukh lives with her son and daughter, while her husband works in Dubai, police said.

“On inspecting the house, the modus operandi suggested that a family member could have been involved. We recorded the woman’s statement and her son and daughter had a duplicate key to the house,” said police inspector Vilas Jadhav from the Ramnagar police station.

When the police recorded Sudarshan’s statement, they found it to be inconsistent. “When we probed him further, he confessed that him and his friends Nadim Ansari, 19 and Sandeep Parpolkar, 17, had planned the robbery, as they wanted new gadgets, a motorcycle and visits to hotels.

Police have recovered gold and silver ornaments worth Rs. 5,52,750, a brand new motorcycle, and a mobile phone from the accused.
