Setback for municipal staff in row over Diwali bonus
A division bench of the Bombay high court on Monday stayed a single judge’s order, which had granted relief to thousands of corporation employees regarding payment of Diwali bonus. More than 40,000 employees had been denied the bonus in view of a two-day strike in September 2011.
A division bench of the Bombay high court on Monday stayed a single judge’s order, which had granted relief to thousands of corporation employees regarding payment of Diwali bonus. More than 40,000 employees had been denied the bonus in view of a two-day strike in September 2011.

The direction was passed in response to an appeal filed by the BMC against an order passed in August by a single judge of the high court dismissing the petition filed by the BMC and directed them to pay the bonus.
A division bench of chief justice Mohit Shah and justice Nitin Jamdar has now admitted the appeal filed by the civic body and ordered an ad-interim stay on the order.
The judge had granted relief while hearing a petition filed by the civic body challenging an order of Industrial Tribunal that had asked BMC to pay the bonus to the employees.
