Seven get life in 2009 murder case

Seven youths from Talasari taluka were sentenced to life imprisonment by a court in a 2009 murder case.

Additional sessions judge at Palghar BS Wasekar pronounced the sentence, pronouncing seven accused guilty of murdering a villager Raju Sorthi, 30, on May 17, 2009, at a marriage party in the same taluka.

Those sentenced include Kalpesh Amrut Sorthi, 20, Dharmesh Kanthu Sorthi, 20, Lalu Natu Sorthi, 23, Jignesh Natu Sorthi, 20, Jignesh Raman Dubla, 21, Anil Kantu Sorthi, 24, and Suresh Mafat Patni, 19.

The youths, armed with weapons and hockey sticks had gatecrashed the marriage party. They located Raju at the house of Ganesh Amrut and roughed him up, injuring him seriously.

Later they fled the scene, but Raju died enroute to the hospital. PTI
