Solanki found Dulera, a Class 6 student, choking and suspended from the rope of a play swing at his house in Mariyambai Chawl.

Dulera’s parents have claimed that it was an accident, but the police officers are waiting to record the child’s statement once he regains consciousness. “The Solankis and the Duleras are neighbours. On Tuesday when Solanki went to Dulera’s house to leave with him for school, he found Dulera hanging from the ceiling, with the rope of a swing choking him,” said Prakash Mogre, a neighbour.

Chetan is the son of 27-year-old Kishore Pramod Solanki, who committed suicide by hanging himself last Thursday.

Solanki alerted Dulera’s grandmother and neighbours who brought the boy down and rushed him to Nair Hospital.

“We are yet to ascertain if the boy tried to hang himself or it was an accident. The boy’s father was sleeping at home when the incident happened. His mother lives separately,” said Police Sub-Inspector P.D. Khilari.
