The central government has made it compulsory to install set top boxes by October 31. Sena wants the deadline to be extended to January 2013.

Uddhav Thackeray, executive president, Shiv Sena, said, "It is sad that the television sets will go blank close to Diwali. We don't want the common man to suffer because of government tactics. We will join support any protest by the common man."

Blaming the Congress government for the policy, Thackeray said, "Television is the only respite for the common man. The government does not want people to enjoy even this luxury."
