Six arrested for stealing railway cables at Thane

With the arrest of six persons, the Thane police on Monday claimed to have solved the case of the theft of optical fibre cables of the Indian Railways in March.

With the arrest of six persons, the Thane police on Monday claimed to have solved the case of the theft of optical fibre cables of the Indian Railways in March.

The police said the arrested persons are from Daighar or Govandi and the stolen goods have been recovered from them. The police had received a complaint in March that the cables worth Rs1 lakh, kept in Diva-Panvel railway line, were stolen.

The arrested accused are Surendra alias Raju Pramod Pande, 32, Sagar Arvind Das, 29, Mohammad Salim alias Hakla Fate Mohmad Ansari, 24, Rafique Abdulla Ansari, 26, Anwar Ibrahim Khan, 26, and Rakesh Udayraj Benvanshi, 22.

The police said that the gang had indulged in similar cases of robbery in several places such as Thane, Navi Mumbai, Mumbai and Lonavala in the past.
