The squad was formed after the murders of Keenan Santos and Reuben Fernandes, who were stabbed after they confronted the accused, Jitendra Rana, for allegedly making lewd comments at a female friend.

The police said they have been getting a lot of calls from women reporting incidents of misbehaviour and eve-teasing.

A squad comprises a police sub-inspector, two female and two male constables. The members are dressed in plainclothes and keep a watch on colleges, gardens, pubs and malls.

Squads have been formed at almost all police stations in the western suburbs and in six days more than 150 people have been charged. All miscreants are booked under sections 110 and 117 of the Bombay Police Act, fined Rs 1,200 each and asked to appear before the court.
