Eighteen-year-old Jeet Mehta, who was a high scorer, with 96% in the science stream in HSC Exams from Mumbai, emerged as the state topper in the Maharashtra Technical Common Entrance Test (MT CET).
A student of Patkar College, Goregaon, Mehta bagged a whopping 98.5% in the MT CET exams, securing 197 out 200 marks. He bagged 100 out of 100 marks in Mathematics, 49 out of 50 in Physics and 48 out of 50 in Chemistry. Mehta lives near Piramal Nagar in Goregaon.
Mehta who was on ‘top of the world’ after his stunning performance, says he did not expect to top the CET. “I was expecting to be in the top 10 ranks, but did not even dream of becoming the state topper,’’ he said.
Mehta had appeared for 40 prelims before appearing for the exam and has been preparing for it for the last two years. “I studied seven to eight hours every day and solved as many sample papers as I could. This helped me in time management in the actual exam,’’ he said. He admits that the portion for CET is too big but he covered the entire syllabus.
Mehta wants to follow his father’s footsteps into engineering. Mehta will be applying to Veermata Jijabai Techonological Institute, to pursue computer science. “I am interested in computers and wanted to study engineering from the best college. Later I want to also pursue an MBA in finance," he said.
