The 13th direct descendant of King Shivaji and the Nationalist Congress Party Member of Parliament (Satara) Udayanraje Bhosale has asked Swabhiman chief Nitesh Rane to stop misusing the royal title Chhatrapati for his brand of vada. He has threatened Rane with legal action if the brand name is not withdrawn immediately.
Bhosale told media persons in Satara on Sunday that he would sue Rane for maligning the royal title. “The title Chhatrapati is exclusively used for King Shivaji and his descendants. Using it for naming a food brands for political gain is very insulting to us.”
Rane did not wish to comment but said he enjoyed good relations with Bhosale. But sources close to Rane said requesting anonymity that he would discuss the issue with the MP before making any statement.
Rane put up his Chhatrapati vada pav against the Shiv Sena’s Shiv vada pav stall at Powai late last week. Rane claimed that all Shiv vada pav stalls that were started under the Sena initiative were illegal and hence they needed to be demolished. He said he is planning to set up several such stalls opposite the Sena outlets. After this, the civic administration has resolved to demolish all illegal stalls without discrimination.
