This time, 29 year old autorickshaw driver was charged with theft and molesting a 22 year old woman of Quresh Nagar at Kurla on Wednesday night when Building No 1 inside Rafiq Estate compound collapsed.

When chaos prevailed in the area, Shaikh allegedly sneaked into a neighbour’s house, stole a cellphone and molested a 22 year old woman, who was asleep, said Dilip Sawant, deputy commissioner of police (zone VI).

“Shaikh entered my house through a window, and after pocketing my cellphone tried to molest my cousin, who was visiting us,” said the victim's brother on condition of anonymity.

When the woman raised an alarm, all family members woke up. “I recognised Shaikh and tried to catch him. At 3.45 am, we filed a complaint with the Nehru Nagar police,” the brother added. The police caught Shaikh soon after.

“Before breaking into the victim’s house, Shaikh had targeted two other houses,” said Sawant. “During the identification parade, the victim pointed to Shaikh as the man who tried to molest her.” He has been remanded in judicial custody until August 13.
