The victim, a student of Holy Cross School in Nalasopara, had gone for a school picnic.
It was in the evening that the group of 150 realised that Pawar, daughter of an auto rickshaw driver, was missing following which they started searching for her.
She had severe injuries on the head, possibly resulting in her death. Based on the findings, a case of murder has been registered against an unknown person, said Superintendent of Police, Vishwas Nangre Patil. The police also stated that if the victim had fallen from a height there would have been multiple injuries on her body.
She only had head injuries. The post-mortem report will ascertain the reason of her death.
