The New Panvel police have made a third arrest in the quadruple murder case at a farmhouse in Panvel on November 14.
Sanjay Khutle, 38, a resident of Nangaon village in Panvel, was arrested on Tuesday after being picked up from his residence. The police claim he sold the murder weapon to Ramdas Patil, 24, who allegedly gave it to Chandrakant Waghmare, the prime accused.
While the police are trying to trace the murder weapon, there is still not much information on the actual conspiracy and the possibility of more than just the lone accused Waghmare being involved in the killing of four people.
The police had on November 19 arrested Waghmare, a resident of Mohpada Katkarwadi area in Panvel, for the murder of Ramdas Patil of Pendhar village, Balaram Tople of Sivakar village, Nitin Joshi of New Panvel and Pritam Gharat of Murbi village. The arrest was followed last Thursday night by another arrest, that of Ramdas Patil, a resident of Shivkar village of Panvel.
The four victims were found at the farmhouse in Shiravale village of Panvel, that is owned by Datta Patil, vice-chairman of Panvel APMC and the deceased Ramdas’ uncle.
Police say that the men had been lured with the promise of money raining at the farm house and that Waghmare alone killed them all and took away around Rs 10 lakh in cash which he needed for an emergency at home.
