Dr Vivek Malik, who then sped from Jogeshwari to Borivli, is believed to have been drunk at the time of the incident.
The policeman finally had to call for back-up and was ‘rescued’ only after another quick-thinking cop blocked the car’s path with a police van.
Malik, an Andheri resident, was finally arrested in Kandivli and faces charges of abduction and driving under the influence, among others.
According to the police, Malik had just finished dinner with a woman friend on Friday night and was driving to Borivli to drop her home when he rammed his Indigo into a car ahead of him on the Western Express Highway.
It was a minor collision and no one was injured.
But when Jogeshwari beat constable Vasant Deokar arrived at the scene, the two parties were arguing and Malik was allegedly reeking of alcohol.
“I told him to come to the police station with me and pay a fine. He refused,” says Deokar. “Realising he was about to escape, I jumped into the back seat of the car.”
It took a team of six policemen from the Samata Nagar police station in Kandivli (East) to finally halt the vehicle, by parking a police van it its way.
