On April 13, the HC had directed the department to reinstate two doctors at St George and Cama and Albless hospitals with continuity of service and benefits. However, the department informed the doctors that the period during which they were dismissed would be independently considered.

The department tendered an apology to the doctors in the tribunal on Friday and gave them written assurance that they would follow the HC order.

Dr Kavita Tilwani and Dr Disha Andhiwal Rajput had been dismissed in August 2009 after they had given a conditional resignation to their superiors demanding proper disposal of bio-medical waste.

Both the tribunal and the high court had maintained that such a dismissal was illegal. htc
