A bike ride to enjoy the Eid lights in Sewri turned fatal for two children on Thursday night when they were crushed under a speeding truck.

Nazir Ansari, 38, took his niece and two sons for a bike ride at 9.15pm on Thursday. "Nazir was taking a right turn when a speeding truck crashed into him from behind. Nasir's niece Humera, 10, and son Tanvir, 5, fell off the bike and were crushed under the truck's wheels.

The accidents caused a traffic jam and the children couldn't be taken to hospital in time. Tanvir died before admission and Humera during treatment," said Pratap Ghadge, police sub inspector, RAK Marg police station. Miraculously, Nazir and his older son Shafi, 7, escaped with minor injuries.

The police have arrested driver Phulchand Prajapati, 21, for rash driving and causing death due to negligence. Police said Prajapati was not drunk.
