Two succumb to malaria in 2 days

Two people died of malaria in the city in the last two days, taking the total death toll to 38 this month. HT reports.

One of the victims was a 42-year-old woman from Mahim, who had been admitted to hospital on August 21 and died two days later. The other victim was a 65-year-old man from Ghatkopar. He had been admitted to the hospital on August 22 and died on August 24.

On Wednesday alone, public hospitals admitting 151 new malaria patients. More than 4,600 patients have been admitted to public hospitals since August 1.

Six more people tested positive for swine flu on Wednesday, taking the total number of H1N1 cases in the city to 192 this month.

Among other rain-related illnesses, public hospitals reported 475 cases of fever, 42 cases of gastroenteritis, two cases of leptospirosis and four cases of dengue on Wednesday.
