According to the police, around 8.30pm, the foreigner who was on board a CST-Dombivli-bound slow train fell off the train between Matunga and Dadar stations.

Fellow commuters informed the guard, who alerted the station manager. The foreigner had lost consciousness and was taken to Sion hospital where he was declared dead while undergoing treatment. "He had lost his right leg in the mishap and had sustained severe injuries on his head and back," said Shivaji Shinde, senior inspector of Dadar Government Railway Police (GRP).

The police did not find any identification papers on his person. "We also checked the compartment he was traveling in and the spot where he was found lying unconscious, but could not find anything that could help us identify him," Shinde added.

The deceased was white skinned, six feet tall with blonde hair and moustache. He had several tattoos on his body, one of which reads 'Helli' or 'Melli'.

The Dadar GRP has informed the embassies of all foreign countries and also the immigration office at the Chhatrapati Shivaji international airport about the incident for help with identifying the deceased.
