Krishnaraj Rao, member of Right to Information Union, said: “We will convey the corporators’ demand to mayor Shraddha Jadhav. Corporators are least interested in public service. Political parties should not entertain such demands.”
The activists also plan to hold a signature campaign to protest against the move. “Why should taxpayers bear the burden of privileges given to councillors?” asked Naresh Karmalker, trustee, H-West federation.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has found another solution to the issue. Rahul Shewale, chairman, standing committee, said: “There is no harm in granting concession. Corporators, ex-corporators, senior citizens and children below 14 years would get 50% discount.”
Nayana Kathpalia, co-convener, City space, said: “Let the corporators formulate the policy and get citizens’ views on it.”
