Neelam Mistri (34) allegedly ended her life as she was depressed about not getting a good groom. She lived with her elder brother, his wife and her younger sister (32), who is also unmarried, and her parents. “Mistri was washing clothes when she suddenly went out of the flat and jumped from the terrace of the eight-storey building. She lived on the fourth floor,” said senior inspector Maruti Rathod.

“Mistri was depressed for the past six to seven months as she was not getting married. She was undergoing treatment,” added Rathod.

In another case, a 21-year-old third year Commerce student hanged herself at her residence in Dahisar as she was scared that she would fail in her final exams.

Nikita Thakur lived with her maternal aunt at Navagaon in Dahisar West. Her parents have died. Thakur was a third year commerce student of a Borivli-based college. “Thakur was depressed after her final exams. She feared that she would fail in three subjects,” said a police officer from the MHB police station.

“Thakur’s exams got over a few days ago. She told her family she did not fare well in three subjects. She was upset since then,” said her cousin. No suicide note was found.
