The woman was three months pregnant and was returning to her home in Kalyan, after a day's work at a garment factory in Ghatkopar, officials said.

The incident delayed the train she was in for some time.

The incident took place around 7.25pm, said the Thane Government Railway Police.

According to officials, the Kalwa resident started experiencing severe pain following which other passengers pulled the alarm chain. The train then stopped at platform two of Thane station, and some women passengers rushed her to Thane civil hospital.

GRP officials said the doctors said she had already miscarried by the time she was brought to the hospital.
