“We have been asking for world-class development of the station for several years. The Central Railway (CR) has finally agreed to it,” said Thane MP Sanjeev Naik, a day after he met Z.A. Siddiqui, chief commercial manager of Indian Railway Traffic Service. “A technical and feasibility survey needs to be done, which will cost Rs 5-6 crore. It will take a year to complete the survey after which work will actually begin. The project will be implemented on a public-private partnership basis,” he added.

CR will set up a passenger reservation counter at the district office if space for queues are provided by the zilla parishad.

‘Airport must come up at Navi Mumbai’

Reiterating that the second international airport should come up at Navi Mumbai, MP Supriya Sule and Naik added that they have communicated the same to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at a meeting held last week.

“Mumbai needs an additional airport as it is the economic capital. We are concerned about the environmental implications but development is also important. We leave it to the technical experts to find a solution to this,” said Sule.
