The development of Virar-Dahanu on the western line, Kalyan-Vangini on the central and Thane-Vashi on Trans Harbour depend on who gets these rakes.

The Western Railway is expected to receive 26 trains while the remaining nine will go to Central Railway.

“We expect most of these trains to come to us, which can then be operated on

Virar-Dahanu stretch,” said Western Railway chief PRO, S. Gupta.

Central Railway is waiting for 12-car trains for Thane-Vashi stretch and for starting the conversion of DC-AC lines on the Kalyan-Vangini stretch.

“We can start conversion on Kalyan-Vangini only if we get the new-age trains that can run both on 1,500 volts DC and 25,000 volts AC line,” said Central Railway chief PRO, S. Mudgerikar.
