“If music be the food of love, play on,” wrote Shakespeare. And indeed, the second edition of Udaipur World Music Festival, to be held from February 10 to 12, is set to live up to these words and enthral music lovers.
Featuring 150 artists from 16 countries including United Kingdom, Italy, South Africa, Senegal, Canada, Armenia, Turkey, Macedonia, Mozambique, Norway, Iran, Cuba, Switzerland and India, the milieu of performers will perform at multiple venues across the city of Udaipur. Indian bands, which include Advaita, Kabir Café, Swarathma, Parwaaz, are also geared up to present fusion music at world stage.
On how the festival has grown to be more bigger and better in the second edition, Festival Director Sanjeev Bhargava says, “The biggest catch this year is the 11-member Kocani Orkestar- Balkanic gypsy band from Macedonia, who is performing for the first time in India. The performers will travel across the city, create their audience and give a carnivalesque theme to the festival. This fest also aims to provide a platform to budding musicians and discover new talent.”
Udaipur, often referred as the ‘Venice of the East’, becomes the perfect venue of the festival which promises to spread love through music on the Valentine’s weekend. Abhishek Mathur, the guitarist of the Delhi-based band Advaita says, “Since it’s the Valentine’s Day weekend, we might add some more romantic numbers in our list of songs.”
