Hip-hop artist Hard Kaur, who is fondly remembered for her song Ek Glassy, while talking over the phone to us, talked about how difficult it was for her to make her way in the hip -hop industry.

“The people in the industry are old fashioned. They can’t digest the fact that a woman wants to be a hip-hop artist. India in that sense is more Westernised, as they respect artists based on their music and not on their gender,” said the 34-year-old. “I am the first female hip-hop artist in the world. Haters can hate and that’s what they will do. I am not bothered, as I have got the skills and I am finally ready to bring the real hip-hop in India”, she added.

Hard Kaur, who recently collaborated with music composer Ram Sampat and folk singer Bhanwari Devi, for a song, Kattey, revealed how the lyrics of her part in the song are about her personal life.

“Ram just told me to write whatever I feel like. I was so happy about it and I decided to treat the fans with some real hip-hop music. I straight away wrote the song. The lyrics in the song, especially my part, is about my experiences as a struggling artist coming up in the music industry. A lot of it is personal,” she concluded.
