Rock guitarist Jimi Hendrix’s apartment in London will soon be open to public starting 2016. This is the place where he lived and died. He lived at 23 Brook Street in London’s posh Mayfair section, adjacent to the home where composer George Frideric Handel had lived two centuries earlier.

The Handel House Trust that owns both properties has spent two years and 2.4 million pounds ($3.7 million) restoring Hendrix’s apartment. It has been made to look as it did in 1969, when he played some of his most famous concerts.

Trust chairman Alistair Stranack said Tuesday Hendrix’s circle of friends and acquaintances helped provide details about his life there. Hendrix began his musical career in America but shot to stardom after forming the Jimi Hendrix Experience in London. He died in 1970.
