In a bid to spread the message of love and unity, composer Rupert Fernandes has created a new version of ‘Vande mataram’. The song, titled ‘Vande mataram — love unites’, releases online on August 15. “I woke up one morning with the words ‘vande mataram’ ringing in my head. I also had a tune in mind, so I couldn’t stop myself from recording it.

I asked a couple of friends for help, gathered some kids to sing it and got into a studio to record it,” says Fernandes, who has composed music for several ad films.
The lyrics of the song have been written by Swanand Kirkire. The lines in the end are in different languages and have been penned by Manohar Nayak. It was composed and recorded in two days. “Initially, I had not planned to make a video for this track. But everything happened thanks to the selfless efforts of those who got involved. Some talented people contributed to bring this to fruition — from the lyricists and the singers to the film director,” says Fernandes.

The track is based on the idea that if there is love between people, there will be unity, respect and patriotism. “I was gathering the children to get them to the studio when I asked an eight-year-old girl, who is my daughter’s friend, what she felt after listening to the tune. Her face brightened up. She said, ‘I feel like helping somebody’,” he says.
