SRINAGAR: A Class 5 student is feared to have drowned after jumping into the Jhelum river to escape security forces — who were chasing him — during a stone-pelting incident in Srinagar on Thursday. Police said Danish Haroo, a resident of Palpora in Srinagar’s Noorbagh, drowned after he jumped into the Jhelum. They said a group of boys pelting stones at security forces in Parimpora-Palpora were chased by the forces. “While trying to escape, four boys jumped into the Jhelum passing through the area. Three of them managed to swim to the shore but the fourth one drowned,” police said.
