TIRUPATI: The nine-day annual Navarathri Brahmotsavam festival of the famous hill shrine of Lord Venkateswara at nearby Tirumala got underway on Monday amid chants of Vedic hymns by priests. As part of the opening ceremony, the high priests hoisted the traditional sacred Garuda Flag atop the Golden Holy Mast (Dwajastambham) inside the hill shrine after sunset, said temple Public Relations Officer Dr T Ravi.
