Three men, including an employee of a gas agency, were arrested by Noida police on Tuesday night from near Gijhor crossing for allegedly robbing two other employees of the agency of Rs 6.56 lakh on February 19.
The incident took place around 2.30pm when Ram Singh (47) and Kailash (35), employees of Chitra Gas Agency, were on their way to a bank in Sector 22 to deposit the money collected from various delivery persons.
Near a petrol pump in Sector 54, they had been intercepted by two persons who then robbed them of the bag containing the money. A case had been registered in this regard at the Sector 24 police station.
Police had suspected this to be an insider job and based on tip-offs from an informant, they nabbed three persons from near the Gijhor crossing, one of whom is an employee of the agency.
The accused were identified as Ashish Verma (the employee) of Azamgarh, Chahat Upadhyay of Gijhor and Bhura Yadav of Aligarh. Two of the suspects — Pramod and Yakesh (single names) — are on the run and police are working on leads to nab them.
“Verma has been working as a loader in the gas company for almost a year now. He was the mastermind of the robbery. He knew about the money collected by the agency. A day before the robbery, he had told his accomplices about the money,” the senior superintendent of police Vaibhav Krishna said.
“There were four people involved in the robbery. Verma told Bhura when the two men carrying the cash had left the office. Bhura then informed the others and they formed two teams near the petrol pump. Chahat and Yakesh followed them on a motorcycle and Bhura and Pramod followed them in a WagonR. The car was a backup in case something went wrong. They all fled towards Gijhor after the robbery,” the SSP said.
Police said all suspects are in their twenties and are not very educated.
“We have also recovered Rs 2.6 lakh of the loot. Nearly Rs 65,000 was used by Chahat to free up some jewellery he had pawned earlier. They have also deposited some money in bank accounts of friends and relatives. We are working on freezing those accounts and recovering the money,” Krishna said.
Police said a portion of loot was with the suspects who are on the run.
“We have recovered the motorcycle that was used in the robbery and two countrymade pistols from the suspects along with two receipts of Rs 63,080 and Rs 2,500 from a moneylender with whom the jewellery had been pawned. One phone that was bought afterwards with the stolen money was also seized,” the SSP said.
