From unkempt parks to bad water, problems galore in newly developed Noida sectors

Unlike thousands of homebuyers in Noida who are suffering due to delay in handover of flats by developers, nearly 10,000 families living in newly developed sectors 74 to 78 are victims of Noida authority’s apathy.

Unkempt parks and green belts, missing sewer lines, hard water, choked drains and lack of public transport, police post, community centre and cooperative milk booth facilities have become a bane for the residents of these sectors.

Families living in Grand Ajnara Heritage, Prateek Wisteria, Sunshine Helios, Antriksh Golf View I and II, Mahagun Moderne, Hyde Park are upset with the Noida authority for failing to provide basic facilities to them despite the fact that these sectors were developed many years ago. These are some of the problems faced by the residents.

Drainage system

“Sewer lines are missing at various places and the sewage gets accumulated in green belts. When we complain about it, the sanitation wing of the Noida authority pumps out sewage from the green belts and dumps it at their treatment plants. This is also one of the reasons for the poor maintenance of the green belts,” said Alok Shroff, a resident of Sunshine Helios, Sector 78.

He said the sewer lines are missing at some places as the Noida authority is yet to acquire land from farmers. He said the drain running along the road where metro construction work is going on is choked.

Road and exits

Due to the non availability of land, roads have not been constructed in some areas because of which residents of these sectors suffer a lot.

“There is no road behind our colony in Sector 77. As a result, we have to drive 8 km from Sector 77 to reach Sector 120. Had the Noida authority acquired land from farmers, a road would have been built behind Sector 77 and this would have meant just a drive of 1.5 km to Sector 120. The authority should have taken care of all these issues before developing the sector,” said Yudhvir Singh, a resident of Prateek Wisteria, Sector 77.

Residents of Grand Ajnara Heritage in Sector 74 want an exit near Gate No.2 of their housing complex.

“The residents of our colony have to drive nearly half a kilometre extra as there is no exit. To avoid driving extra, many residents drive on the wrong side of the road, which is dangerous,” said Rudresh Singh, a resident of Grand Ajnara.

He said residents of Sector 74 to 78 on Saturday held a meeting with officials of the Noida authority.

Hard water

Residents of these colonies complain that they get hard water, which is not fit for drinking or other purposes.

“As of now, the water that the Noida authority supplies is a mix of 80% groundwater and 20% Ganga water. The water is not fit for consumption. We want more Ganga water,” said Neeraj Rathi, a resident of Grand Ajnara.

Parks and green belts

The residents said though plots have been earmarked for parks in each sector, none has been developed so far.

“Noida authority officials want us to maintain the parks and green belts. But where are the parks? Some of them even do not have boundary walls and the green belts have been encroached upon,” said Shroff.

Echoing the views, another resident Rudresh Singh said the green belt opposite Grand Ajnara Heritage in Sector 74 has been encroached upon by vendors.

“A barber shop, an eatery and a grocery kiosk are running there unauthorisedly. They hinder traffic movement and are also a security threat,” he said.

Official speak

Noida authority project engineer MP Sharma said his team will soon inspect the road in Sector 74 to facilitate construction of an exit.

“As population is increasing in the area, we have to ensure that the exit does not cause problem,” he said.

About development of parks and green belts, Sharma said the horticulture department will start plantation in July.

“We will take care of the fencing of parks as well,” he said.

The water works department will also increase the supply of Ganga water to the sectors in due course, said Sharma.
