The Ghaziabad police on Monday arrested six men, allegedly to be members of a gang of robbers, who had allegedly beat up and looted a person on May 14 near the Raj Nagar Extension after their plan to murder a former rival had gone awry.

The six were identified as Ravi Jat, Akash Laliyana, Bunty Tyagi, Prince Tyagi, Ravi Sharma and Mintu Tyagi, who is a management graduate and allegedly the leader of the gang. The police said Mintu allegedly has a rivalry with a former student of another college and had planned his murder when he came out of jail.

The police said three of the suspects – Mintu, Akash and Ravi – had been lodged in jail in connection with the murder of a city trader in November, 2017, and had come out about two months ago.

“On the night of May 14, Mintu called up his accomplices Akash and Ravi, whom he had met during his time at the Dasna jail. The three, along with the other suspects, went to the house of their rival, Ankur alias Seety, located at Sikrodpur behind Raj Nagar Extension. But he was not at home. Later, the gang robbed a local resident Niranjan Kumar and fled with his jewellery and cash after beating him at his shop near Raj Nagar Extension,” Sanjay Pandey, station house officer of the Sihani Gate police station, said.

The police recovered the robbed jewellery items and 18 live cartridges along with three pistols, one revolver and a countrymade weapon. A Brezza car was also recovered which the police said the suspects had allegedly used for different robberies.

The police said that Mintu, Bunty and Ravi had gone to jail in November, 2017 after they allegedly murdered city based trader Gagan Khanduja.

The suspects had allegedly stopped the Gagan’s two wheeler on the Ambedkar Road and fired multiple rounds at him.

According to the police, Mintu, Prince and Ravi have a total of 21 different crime cases against their names at various police stations in Ghaziabad and Meerut.
