The district administration, on the orders of district magistrate BN Singh, is cracking down on dealers who allegedly misused the data of ration card holders in Noida and Greater Noida.

The administration has registered complaints at Sector 20, Kasna and Dadri police stations against nearly 56 people for their alleged involvement in the scam.

The action was taken after the alleged scam, in which fake Adhaar cards were used multiple times to withdraw grains from the accounts of ration card holders, came to light.

“We have registered complaints against ration card dealers and people who used their Aadhar cards to obtain food items illegally in association with the dealers. These people were allegedly feeding wrong data in the biometric machines to wrongfully obtain food items,” RN Yadav, district supplies officer (DSO), said.

According to officials, the drive against dealers in Gautam Budh Nagar district trying to siphon off subsidised grains meant for the poor will continue.

“These people have been taking advantage of technical glitches to take away ration. Our DSOs in various districts are keeping an eye on this illegal activity. We informed the food commissioner about it after which the crackdown took place,” added Yadav.

According to officials, the alleged scam has been going on in at least 43 districts of the state and a detailed inquiry is already underway.

“The state government is taking this issue seriously as it has been taking place in 43 districts, including western UP districts. Officials will also be looking for people helping these dealers in making fake ration cards,” Yadav said.

According to officials, they suspected there was an organised gang, working in association with some dealers, that allegedly prepared fake Aadhaar cards to buy rations.

There are two lakh ration card holders in Gautam Budh Nagar, of which 86,000 belong to the urban area.
