According to the police, Umesh Kumar, a resident of Noida, had gone to withdraw money from an ATM where another man exchanged his debit card on the pretext of helping Kumar and siphoned off Rs 85,000 from his account.

“On May 17, I went to an ATM of Punjab National Bank at Sector 18 to withdraw money. I faced some problem in withdrawing money. Then another customer standing behind me took my card and helped me withdraw the amount. It was after reaching home when I found that my card had been exchanged and Rs 85,000 was withdrawn,” said Kumar.

The police said that the accused not only swiped the card to withdraw the money but also transferred money to a bank account in Pauri Garhwal.

An FIR is yet to be registered in the case.
