The Noida authority has issued a notice to the DLF Mall of India management for the traffic congestion on the roads outside the mall.
The notice has been served after the authority realised that ‘poor management of visitors’ entry/exit to the mall’ was causing severe congestion on the two roads outside the mall during peak hours.
The condition goes from bad to worse on weekends when the number of visitors to the mall increases. Motorists travelling on Master Plan-2 Road, between Film City and Sector 18, have to waste more than 30 minutes during peak hours owing to the snarls.
Similarly, the road outside Sector 18 that connects with Sector 17 also witnesses a jam due to the visitors’ entry and exit to and from DLF Mall of India.
“We have directed the DLF, through a notice, to ensure that there is no traffic congestion on the roads outside their premises as thousands of motorists suffer daily because of it. We have directed the DLF to streamline traffic on the roads outside their premises in the next three months. If they fail to do so, the authority will act against them,” Sandip Chandra, chief engineer, Noida authority, said.
Thousands of commuters face congestion on the roads outside DLF Mall because visitors to the mall halt right in the middle of the road outside the shopping complex.
The Noida authority has also hired the DLF to run an eight-floor multilevel parking lot in Sector 18 opposite the mall. The road between DLF Mall and the Sector 18 multilevel parking facility remains congested because motorists illegally park their vehicles there.
“The DLF should ensure that the entry and exit to the mall is smooth and that traffic does not pile up on the roads outside the premises,” Chandra said.
Visitors to the Sector 18 market also face a harrowing time negotiating the traffic due to congestion outside the DLF Mall.
“Visiting Sector 18 or DLF Mall is not a pleasant experience during weekends due to the haphazard parking on the roads and poor traffic management. The authorities managing the mall should address the issue at the earliest,” Amrita Singh, a resident, said.
