The Noida authority is yet to construct an approach road for a bridge across the Hindon river, rendering the bridge useless at present.

Work on this bridge was started in October 2014 and was completed in March 2016. The Noida authority’s failure to build a one-kilometre road has delayed its opening. Work on this approach road got delayed due to non-availability of land at the spot where the road is supposed to be constructed.

“I had conducted an inspection of the area (where the bridge is located) and directed the staff to build the road a month ago. We had also sorted out the road alignment issues. I will ask officials to expedite work on it and finish it at the earliest,” Alok Tandon, the chief executive officer of the Noida authority, said.

This bridge is located between Greater Noida’s Sector 1/4 and Noida’s Sector 118/122. The eight-lane bridge is 28 metres wide and connects Noida’s Phase-2, sectors 121, 122, 84, 74, 73, 77, 78 and 79 with Greater Noida’s sectors 1, 4 and 16A.

The Noida authority needs to purchase 1,12,000 square metres land from farmers to build the approach road. The authority had in 2015 fixed Rs3,500 per sqm as the rate to purchase the land. Now, following the CEO’s directions, the authority staff is talking to farmers to acquire the land for constructing the road.

“We are convincing landowners to give us the land for constructing the road. We hope we will be able to build it without further delay,” a Noida authority official said.

At present, there are three existing bridges at Hindon that connect Noida and Greater Noida. These bridges are located at Noida Extension crossing, near Kulesra village on Dadri-Surajpur-Chhalera road and the third bridge is a part of the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway.

The Noida and Greater Noida authorities had spent a combined Rs52 crore on construction of this bridge, which is lying unused.

“If the bridge was built to improve connectivity, why has the road been constructed and opened so that motorists make use of this ready facility? The authority should construct it without further delay. If the road is built, it will address traffic congestion issues that are witnessed on the Noida-Greater Noida west road,” Manoj Yadav, a resident of Sector 117, said.
