Police arrested a quack on Sunday, four days after a 16-year-old boy died under mysterious circumstance at his ‘illegal’ clinic at railway road in Dadri, Greater Noida.

Anand Prakash Sharma, who calls himself a doctor, was arrested by a Dadri police team around 4pm on Sunday from Badalpur area of Greater Noida. According to the police, the accused used to run a small clinic and chemist shop at Railway Road in Dadri without any license or degree. Saurabh Nagar (16), from Bambhod village, had died after a brief treatment at his clinic on last Wednesday evening. Saurabh’s parents had then lodged a case against Sharma claiming that he was a quack.

“We investigated and found out that the accused was running a chemist shop and clinic illegally, without licence or certification. He was on the run since last Wednesday. However, after we received a tip from an informant, he was picked up from Badalpur area of Greater Noida on Sunday evening,” Ram Sen Singh, station house officer, Dadri police station, said.

Saurabh was enrolled in class 10 of a private school in Dujana village, Dadri.

According to Saurabh’s family, he was taken to Sharma’s clinic in Dadri around 5.30pm on Wednesday, after he complained of fever.

“Saurabh complained of fever in the evening and he was taken to Sharma’s clinic by his father Ajay. Sharma administered an injection to Saurabh. Minutes later, his condition deteriorated and he fainted suddenly at the clinic,” Yogesh, Saurabh’s uncle, said.

Saurabh was then rushed to Yashoda Hospital in Ghaziabad around 6pm, where he was declared dead on arrival by a team of doctors.

Saurabh’s autopsy was carried out at Yashoda Hospital at the behest of Ghaziabad police.

“We are still awaiting the result of the autopsy in order to understand Saurabh’s cause of death. Sharma has been arrested under the Indian Penal Code Section 304 A for death due to negligence,” Singh added.
