Three persons were dead on late Wednesday night when they were returning home to Delhi after a birthday party of one of the victims in Ghaziabad and their bike allegedly slipped into a drain at Site IV Industrial Area.
The incident took place around 1am on Thursday when Akshay Kumar, Mohit Khokhar and Abhishek alias Bunty were triple riding on a Yamaha Fazer bike and ventured to the Site IV Industrial Area.
According to the police, the bike hit a wall and all the three men, who were not wearing helmets, fell into a deep drain. Two of them died on the spot while the third, Akshay, succumbed to injuries at the hospital.
“It was his birthday and they might have come to celebrate in Ghaziabad. I came to know about it only by 2.45am when police called up. Two of them died while Akshay succumbed at the hospital. Akshay completed 23 years on Wednesday. His mother had died three years back and he was employed as a contractual employee with Ghaziabad municipal corporation and posted at Vasundhara zone,” said Sawan Kumar, father of deceased Akshay.
“I am not in a position to say whether the boys were drunk or not. If it is a case, it will come out in the post mortem report. As per my knowledge, Akshay was not into the habit of drinking. The other boys came to our house on Wednesday night and all three planned for an outing as it was Akshay’s birthday. They were very good friends and shared a strong bond,” he added.
According to the family members, Mohit was pursuing his graduation through correspondence in Delhi while Abhishek had completed his hotel management and working with a hotel in Delhi. Both Akshay and Abhishek were residents of Janta flats near GTB Hospital in Delhi while Mohit was a resident of Durgapuri in Delhi.
On the basis of preliminary investigation, the police have denied that the young men were drunk and said that it could only be known after the postmortem reports come.
“There were two other friends who were on a scooty and five of them were speeding when the bike lost balance and the three deceased men fell into a drain. Prima facie it seems that they lost balance of the bike and were probably driving at high speed,” said Akash Tomar, superintendent of police (city).
Upon the information by the two other friends on a scooty, the police arrived and fished out the bodies of the three young men. Their bike was later fished out of the drain with the help of a crane roped in by police. The bike belonged to Mohit and he was driving with the other two on the pillion.
In a similar incident on Sunday evening, two young men aged 22-23 years, died at Loni after three of them were riding and their bike lost balance and hit a tree.
