Shuttler PV Sindhu went down fighting against Spain’s Carolina Marin in the gold medal match of the women’s singles event at the Rio Olympics on Friday.

Despite the result, India’s first silver medal from an Olympic badminton final is assured.

While Sindhu clinched the first game, Marin claimed the second with a comfortable margin as the match stretched to a decider. The Spanish No 1 won the third game 21-15.
