Scrappy PV Sindhu goes down to Sung Ji Hyun in BWF Super Series Masters Series

18:51 IST: The PV Sindhu match will start after the men’s singles semifinal between Viktor Axelsen of Denmark and Son wan Ho of Korea. It’s a neck and neck affair so far in the first game.

PV Sindhu is clearly on a high in the BWF Super Series Masters Finals. After stunning world No. 1 Carolina Marin in straight games on Thursday, Sindhu will have an extra spring in her step when she comes out to play against Sung Ji Hyun at the Hamdan Sports Complex.

On form and stats this year, PV Sindhu will be the more fancied player today. The 21-year-old Hyderabad girl has a 6-3 win-loss record against Sung Ji Hyun, with four wins coming in 2016.

PV Sindhu’s latest win against Sung Ji Hyun came in the China Open in November 11. Sindhu beat the Korean 11-21, 23-21 and 21-19 in a tough match. Sindhu went on to win the China Open by beating China’s Sun Yu 21-11, 17-21 and 21-11.

The winner of the PV Sindhu vs Sung Ji Hyun match will play No. 1 seed Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei. Tai Tzu Ying defeated Sun Yu 21-19, 21-19 in the first semifinal on Saturday afternoon. The match lasted 50 minutes.
