Sindhu holds the edge over Yamaguchi in career head-to-head. In their seven meetings so far, Sindhu has won on five occasions while Yamaguchi has won twice.

Sindhu is ranked three in the BWF world rankings, while Yamaguchi is placed one spot ahead of her.

Earlier on Saturday, Sindhu defeated Chen Yufei, ranked eighth, 21-15, 21-18 in a 58-minute contest at the Sheikh Hamdan Indoor Stadium.

Yamaguchi, on the other hand, won 17-21, 21-12, 21-19 against world number 6 Ratchanok Intanon.
